Assuming we started with a total pot size of £100,000 split with 80% in our chosen fund and 20% in cash, let’s look at the performance statistics (shown to the right)
As of the end of 2024, the fund value is £102,808, so very close to our original amount which is what we expect.
The difference is because we cannot buy part units of the fund, we have to buy whole units so this will allow the fund value to deviate slightly from our starting amount.
Amazingly our cash pile has grown to £190,800 from its starting amount of £20,000 to give a total pot of £293.608.
This is despite withdrawing £350 every month since 2010!
